We have two exciting performances to announce. First, we will be playing another concert of music by living female composers. Last year, we partnered with the fantastic organization, Listening to Ladies on a fantastic performance in Gallery MC in Manhattan. This year, we will premiere three to five more works on March 25, as well as perform more great repertoire by female composers. You can read all about the call for scores here. The performance takes place on March 25 at the National Opera Center. Don't miss it! Sam KaestnerClarinetist, and co-founder of Vent Nouveau

It's a new year, and time to announce some exciting upcoming projects! In March, we will embark on a recording and performance project with Brazilian Musician Benji Kaplan. We will help bring his exciting, intricate music to life in the studio and on stage in Manhattan. Full details will be announced shortly, but the concert will be in March, so stay tuned!
Last night we were very excited to open up for the amazing musician Iva Bittová at Quinn's restaurant in Beacon. We performed three movements from the Szervánsky Wind Quintet no. 1 and all of Gordon Jacob's Old Wine in New Bottles. Performing classical music in a bar is such a wonderful change of pace from the concert hall. Everyone was there for a good time, for good food and drink, and to hear good music. Quinn's has a wonderful community hang vibe to it, and we were thrilled to be a part of it. We're looking forward to more events there soon and possibly even a residency of some sort in the future.
Words by Sam Kaestner Thank you to all that attended our recital at the Croton Free Library! We had a great time and got a lot of footage that we are preparing to share soon. We will be performing again on May 1st in Beacon, NY as the opening act for Iva Bittová at Quinn's. Our set will include 3 movements of a woodwind quintet by Endre Szervánsky, and Old Wine in New Bottles by Gordon Jacob. Iva is bringing a string quartet to Quinn's to perform Slovak songs of Bela Bartok, arranged by Vladimír Godár for voice and string quartet, from her new recording on Pavian Records. Buy your tickets at Quinn's or make reservations by calling Quinn's after 4PM at 845-202-7447.
Words by Kristen Mather de Andrade March 13, 2016 will mark the very first public performance of Vent Nouveau - an idea that fellow West Point Band clarinetist Sam Kaestner and I have had simmering for some time now. In fact, many of the founding members (translation: people that have been roped in to spending their free time rehearsing, recording a demo, and looking beautiful for some head shots) are or were members of the West Point Band, however there were many NYC area musicians involved in recording our demo and who will be involved in the future.
So what is it all about?? It's really about performing repertoire that many of us feel is underperformed, and bringing light to an ensemble that is often seen as less serious than our string quartet playing peers. No one can deny that there is a huge repertoire of great music for string quartet, but what many people outside of the wind playing community don't know is that some of the same great composers wrote major works for wind chamber ensembles. Harmoniemusik was the beginning of the repertoire for us, and composers continue to write for small and large groups of wind instruments to this day. A late summer performance (at Merryall Center for the Arts in CT) will feature more recent compositions for winds by the composers Paul Hindemith and Leoš Janáček, and as we are able to schedule more performances our hope is to continue promoting this repertoire. But what about this weekend? A woodwind quintet of myself, Katrina Elsnick, Anna Pennington, Briana Lehman, and Nicole Caluori will be performing at the Croton Free Library at 2:00 PM. The program will include the following works: Early Hungarian Dances by Ferenc Farkas, Bläserquintett by Endre Szervánsky, Divertimento for flute, oboe, and clarinet by Malcom Arnold, and a new work by Johnterryl Plumeri, Quintet in G Major. The work by Plumeri will be recorded later spring in collaboration with the composer. Please let me know if you have any questions about the performance or the group by leaving a comment or contacting us through the message form on the "contact" tab. We would also love to hear which pieces you think should be highlighted! Words by Kristen Mather de Andrade |
